12th & Porter - Nashville
w/ Beauty School Dropouts & Deadsun
This was our last show for 2005 and it was kind of a big deal for us.
The last year held so much, with Dan and I joining the fold, spending 7 months
(so far!) working on the new record, having good shows and less good shows, and meeting
so many new people! We also got a new manager that we couldn't be happier with.
12th & Porter is a bit different than other clubs in Nashville. For one thing, the crowd
is up close and at eye level, which is great! The club is also wider than it is deep, so
it feels a lot more intimate than the Exit/In or the Mercy Lounge. All of which helps us
better feed off of the energy we get from the audience!
We made some new fans this night and had a blast supporting Deadsun, as always. The semi-fiaso
in Lewisburg over the summer gave Dan and I a chance to meet them, and they are some of the
coolest guys in Nashville. I remember going to see them back when I was in school, and they
always bring the kick-ass goods.
This night started a bizzare string of equipment failures, one that we didn't recover from for a couple
of months. On the way to the show, my car's driver-side window refused to roll up, just in time for
the torrential downpour just before the show. A few minutes spent trying to pry the door panel off in the
parking lot of a Kangaroo mart were futile, and we started heading down the interstate with nothing more than
a dry-cleaning bag shut inside the door. As cold as this was, it was in some ways a more convenient problem
than the ones we would our next times out. Read on.
