Hard Rock Cafe - MEMPHIS
w/ guests The Everafters
This was our first time in Memphis this year and our third show
on the road. We love to go play for new and old fans that are too far
from Nashville to make it to a local show, but this year things always seem to
go wrong when we leave town. It was bittersweet because we did a great show
in spite of the problems. We played Girl for the first time this year
and debuted a Hendrix cover that let Chad light some fretboard fireworks on his
gold-top Gibson.
We got sidetracked on the way to Memphis by some backed up traffic. The
Everafters got held up too, so we all showed up around eleven (showtime was 9).
Some of the people who came out to see us had left due to
the time, and the management started to give us problems.
(start rant) By the time we went on at 1am, we'd been denied the
free drinks promised by the booker, and when we were done, they decided that it was
against their policy to pay us. With gas the price it is, this was a huge blow
to us (Memphis is a long way away for two SUVs). When we got to the hotel at 4am
to finally get some rest, they didn't have some of our reserved rooms, which eventually
turned out to be at another hotel miles away.
Chad and I passed out the instant we saw the beds, while Dan and Stacy went
across town to the other hotel and partied all night. Chaos isn't so bad to deal
with, but getting screwed by a night manager with an attitude and an unaccountable
booking agent borders on evil. If you're ever in Memphis, do us a favor and
stay out of the HRC. (end rant)
